Happy Mothers Day to everyone!
Yesterday we celebrated Dia de la Madre in Guatemala.
We were awoken at 4.30a.m. by a barrage of fireworks and very loud recorded music. This continued sporadically until around 6am. I am not sure who thinks that mothers would appreciate this but somehow I don’t think it was a mother that came up with this idea!
I was also honored to receive several bunches of flowers from different students and parents of two sponsored students brought me a very special gift – they were so proud to give me a gift of two live turkeys! This was a very special gift, they were very large almost full grown turkeys and they represent a lot of money to this family. This family really struggles to support five children and recover from the devastating loss of their home and all their possessions three years ago – so the incredible generosity of this gift was very touching.
Thank you to everyone who donated baskets to honor mothers in Guatemala. I wish you could have seen the joy that these baskets brought to the families that were fortunate enough to receive them.
